Conduct & Behaviour

General Conduct

Taekwondo has a student oath which is as follows -

I shall respect the Instuctors and Seniors

This means you do as you are asked by either a person who is older than youself, a person higher in grade or a person who has been put in charge by the Instructor.

I shall observe the Tenets of Taekwondo

This means you should try to be courteous, have integrity, perserverance, self control and an indomitable spirit at all times if possible, both inside and outside the dojang.

I shall never misuse Taekwondo

A big misuse would be to use your skills to bully or intimidate someone smaller or weaker than yourself. Taekwondo should only be used in defence of yourself, friends and family.

I shall be a champion of Freedom and Justice

This part of the oath can be interpreted as standing up to those who bully or intimidate people smaller or weaker than themselves. Or simply doing the right thing or things whenever you can.

I shall strive to build a more peaceful World

This can be as simple as helping someone or lending a hand when its needed.

In the dojang we expect the following of students -

Students to turn up in full dobok

To have your belt

To bow upon entering and leaving the dojang, also if you need to leave the dojang to use the toilet please bow and leave without putting your hand up to ask first.

To address the instructor correctly as sir or miss

If an instructor gives you responsibility then you are expected to lead by example. If you mess about then the people who are supposed to learn from you will mess about. So if you are given responsibility you must act accordingly.

Bullying or intimidation of other students will not be tolerated. You will be given one warning regarding your behaviour, if the behaviour continues you will be asked to leave permanently and you will be banned indefinitely.

Rudeness or Disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated, this includes ignoring instructions given by either the instructor or someone put in charge and in particular, swearing. Swearing at any senior grade will earn you an instant dismissal from the club.
